Professor Zou Hong gave an academic lecture for accounting department

Invited by Accounting Department of Business School, Professor Zou Hong from City University of Hong Kong gave an academic lecture on the afternoon of April 11, 2013 in room 426 Ningyuan building. Wang Yonggui (vice Dean of the School), Wu Ge (Chair of the accounting department), Wang Xiuli (Chair of finance department), faculty members, PhD students, graduate and undergraduate students of accounting department attended the lecture.

Professor Zou Hong is an associate professor of Business School, City University of Hong Kong, and has long committed to the study of financial accounting, corporate governance and corporate finance. He has a lot of academic achievements, and has published many papers in international top tier academic journals such as Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Finance, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis etc.

This is the first time for undergraduate students of accounting academic interest group to formally participate in academic activities. Therefore, Vice Dean Wang Yonggui attached great importance to this lecture. He went to the site and gave a warm speech. Professor Wang Yonggui welcomed Professor Zou Hong first, and he praised the action of selecting outstanding undergraduate students from accounting department to organize accounting academic interest group of undergraduate students. He encouraged them to participate in academic research activities. Professor Wang Yonggui emphasized that the academic interest group of undergraduate students provides the platform and exemplary role in the cultivation of high-quality personnel, improves the academic research ability of undergraduate students, and develops the academic capabilities of students. He hoped we could strengthen the interaction between teachers and students, and make it a regular and standardized event in the future.
During the lecture, Professor Zou Hong reported his recent paper “Tax Issues in Mergers & Acquisitions”, coauthored by Professor Xiumin Martin from Saint Louis University in Washington and Professor Wang Cong from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. This paper mainly concerns the impact of company tax aggressiveness on trade price of merger and acquisition. They argued that tax avoidance of M&A targets will have a negative impact on trade M&A price. During the lecture, Professor Zou had a lively interactive discussion with faculty members and students attending the lecture. The undergraduate students from accounting academic interest group exchanged their ideas and experiences with Professor Zou, and also gave some comments. Professor Zou highly recognized the potential of our undergraduate students, and he believed that this is a very valuable training mode for developing the academic potential of students.
