Professor Liu Qiao gave an academic lecture for Accounting Department

Invited by Accounting Department of Business School, Professor Liu Qiao from Guanghua School of Management, Peking University gave an academic, chaired by Doctor Chen Deqiu on the afternoon of May 30, 2013 in room 429 Ningyuan building as the 16th academic lectures of accounting department. Faculty members, PhD students, graduate and undergraduate students of accounting department attended the lecture.

Professor Liu Qiao graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles, and serves as assistant to the dean of Guanghua School of Management of Peking University. He is also a full professor, and PhD student supervisor. He has long committed to the study of corporate finance, market microstructure and Chinese economic research. He has a lot of academic achievement, and has published many papers in international top tier financial and economic journals such as Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis etc.

Professor Liu Qiao reported his recent paper ” Two Accrual Anomalies” this time. This paper mainly concerns the impact of accrual issues in corporate financial reports on the value of company stocks. The paper aims to analyze the phenomenon of accrual accounting and to explain the impact of accounting information on the capital markets.
 
 
Professor Liu divided accrual accounting into market and enterprise-specific accrual accounting, and demonstrated that both exist in financial reporting, and he also pointed out the different effects of the two accrual accounting on company stocks. In the end of the lecture, Professor Liu argued that it’s very valuable to further study the heterogeneity of the two phenomena. During the lecture, Professor Liu had a lively and interactive discussion with faculty members and students attending the lecture.
