The second lecture of the UIBEBS 40th Anniversary High-end Forum - Green governance and evaluation

On October 17th 2022, right following the occasion of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, UIBEBS held the second lecture of the UIBEBS 40th Anniversary High-end Forum - Green governance and evaluation. The lecture was delivered online by Weian Li, professor of Nankai University and dean of China Corporate Governance Research Institute. Professor Li is a pioneer in corporate governance in China. He has a long-term global perspective and focuses on the research of Chinese local corporate governance issues. The lecture was hosted by Professor Deqiu Chen, dean of the School, Professor Tiedong Wang, party secretary of the School attended and addressed the meeting. More than 300 faculty and students attended the lecture that made the academic atmosphere active.

At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Li first recalled his deep friendship with the Business School and UIBE, and then introduced that "Corporate governance" has developed from a problem study into a new discipline in China, especially in 2020 when the Management Science Department of the State Science and Technology Commission has officially listed "Corporate governance" as the second-level discipline code of business administration.

This lecture focused on "Green governance and evaluation". Professor Li first introduced the domestic and foreign background of "Green governance" and pointed out that under the "double-carbon" goal, green governance research is not only a major demand of national strategy, but also the mainstream trend of international development. Afterwards, Professor Li focused on the evolution process of green governance concept and the main content of green governance guidelines, emphasizing the diversity, systematism and synergy of green governance. He believed that green governance is not a simple transfer of corporate social responsibility performance, but a holistic construct including nature, which is in line with the idea of "Unity of nature and people" in traditional Chinese culture. In the second half of the lecture, Professor Li showed the green governance evaluation index system developed and constructed by his team and the final green governance index (980058). Meanwhile, Professor Li also exhibited the specific application of the green governance index in the capital market. At the end of the report, Professor Li reiterated the importance and future development trend of green governance research, and put forward relevant suggestions for promoting the disclosure of green governance information of listed companies based on the current situation of the capital market.

At the end of the lecture, Dean Chen made a summary of Professor Li's report. He pointed out that the theme of this forum is highly consistent with the "Promoting green development, promoting harmonious coexistence between people and nature" in report of the 20th National Congress, which highlights the urgency and importance of green governance.
