On October 28th, 2022, the third lecture of the UIBEBS 40th Anniversary High-end Forum - Innovation-driven development and the rise of innovative science was held successfully in the lecture hall on the second floor of Keyan Building. The lecture was delivered by Professor Jin Chen, a Professor of Economics and Management School of Tsinghua University, doctoral supervisor and director of the Technology innovation research center of Tsinghua University. The event was presided over by Professor Xiaoqiang Xing, associate dean of UIBEBS. Nearly 60 faculty and students participated on-site and more than 1500 alumni and people from all walks of life watched the lecture live online.

This lecture focused on "Innovation-driven development and the rise of innovative science ". Professor Chen first introduced the important discussion on innovation development in the report of the 20th National Congress, pointing out that the "comprehensive innovation with scientific and technological innovation as the core" has expanded the understanding of the connotation of innovation, with distinctive characteristics and great creativity. It is an important guarantee for China to implement the strategy of innovation-driven development and achieve Chinese-style modernization. After that, Professor Chen systematically sorted out the context of innovation research from three stages: "Schumpeterian paradigm", "new Schumpeterian innovation paradigm", and "post-Schumpeterian innovation paradigm", and clearly showed the evolution of innovation focus from innovation system to innovation policy and to innovation commons, and innovation subject from entrepreneur to scientist and to maker and public.

In the second half of the lecture, Professor Chen combined traditional innovative thinking, and on the basis of absorbing oriental philosophy and traditional Chinese culture elements, proposed innovative forms with Chinese characteristics, such as "integrated innovation" and "meaningful innovation", which broke through the atomistic thinking paradigm of traditional innovation paradigm, and raised the thinking of innovation to the "humanistic level" and even the "philosophical level". Promote the theoretical boundary of innovation research to expand to new fields. At the end of the report, Professor Chen proposed that "innovation science" could be constructed as an independent emerging discipline based on the existing theoretical basis and scientific paradigm of innovation research, and stressed that the cultivation of innovative talents should integrate different disciplines.

Finally, Associate Dean Xing made a brief summary of Professor Chen’s lecture, encouraging the students not only to be familiar with the theoretical context, but also to take root in the practice of innovation management, especially the practice of Chinese enterprises, and strive to do original research.
