The First Mock Interview Contest Successfully Held in Business School

On June 15, the first mock interview contest was held successfully in Business School , UIBE.

The contest had four positions, including accounting and finance, management, marketing and civil servants. It was composed of three parts, resume screening, group discussion, and stress interview.

Mr. Gao Yunhe, director of Human Resource Department of Beijing Branch, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Mr. Wu Xiaolong and Mr. Lu Tao from China Fortune Land Development Co., Ltd, Mr. He Liangnan, the alumnus from  Career International Consulting Co., Ltd, Ms. Wang Fang from Human Resource Department of Beijing HKJ Group, Mr. Xu Xiaolong, the alumnus from Human Resource Department of Societe Generale, were invited to be interviewers for the final stage.

Professor Niu Xiongying, director of Human Resource and Organizational Behavior Faculty in Business School, Mr. Chen Shengjun, Associate Professor of Human Resource and Organizational Behavior Faculty, and Mr. Meng Dawei, director of Career Development Center designed the whole contest. Professor Niu and Chen then worked as one of the interviewers for the final stage and the trainer for the judges of the first interview. Teacher Sun Jing was in charge of organizing the contest.

The contest simulated the real recruitment process of an enterprise. The judges commented on each student’s performance, pointed out their problems in interview and gave suggestions.

How to make a wonderful resume

A resume with highlights and characteristics is of great importance to UIBE students who are featured by high flexibility and good communication skills.

To help students make a perfect resume, Business School invited Mr. Xu Xiaolong to make a lecture.

Mr. Xu was a outstanding graduate majoring in business administration. Since his graduation in 2011, he has worked in Human Resource Department of Societe Generale.

Mr. Xu explained what information should be involved in a perfect resume, and gave guidance and pertinent suggestions on students’ resumes.

A Crucial Role Played by HR Major Students

Business School attributed a lot of attention to the employment of Human resource major students and this contest gave the opportunity to HR major students to apply what they have learned from books into practice. Some HR senior students acted as interviewers, while some junior students worked as assistants to experience their future jobs.

Professor Chen Shengjun offered training to student interviewers and assistants. He introduced in detail the selection of topics, standard for evaluation, the use of interview language, and the adjustment to changing circumstances during interview, making sure that their professional competence would be improved, and the contest would be successfully held.

High praise given to this contest by students

This activity aims to improve the employability of students and build a good platform for students’ career development.

Xu Yunting, a contestant from accounting major, remarked that, “The contest was organized in good order. After the stress interview, the judges gave comments and suggestions on contestants’ performances, enabling them to be aware of their advantages and disadvantages, and accumulate interview experience.”

Sun Hao, a contestant from business management major, said that, “this contest have taught me a lot of interview skills and made me fully aware of my shortcomings.”

Li Lei, this contest’s interviewer from HR major, held that, “this contest helps me learn a lot of professional skills. I hope Business School will continue to hold the mock interview context and bring benefits to more students. ”

Through resume screening, group discussion and stress interview, graduating student Bai Luying won the first prize and other seven students won the second and the third. Some students obtained the opportunity to work in CCPIT Beijing Branch, Youth League Committee of Chaoyang District and New China Trust Co., Ltd as summer interns.

Business School will make some adjustments to mock interview contest and enable all graduating students to attend a mock interview for the purpose that all of them will be ready to enter the job market.
